GEMS unveils futuristic AI-driven school in Dubai Sports City
New learning model aligns with Dubai’s Education Strategy 2033 goals
DUBAI – Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, inaugurated the GEMS School of Research and Innovation (SRI) in Dubai Sports City – a futuristic campus redefining education through artificial intelligence, robotics, and sustainability.
Spread across 47,600 square metres, the state-of-the-art school represents a major step towards the future of learning, integrating advanced AI technologies and environmentally conscious design.

It aims to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration while preparing students to lead in fields crucial to the UAE’s vision for progress.
Research hub
At the heart of the campus is the Research Hub, a three-storey vertical learning centre that replaces the traditional library model. Designed as a collaborative ecosystem, it connects students from early years through senior levels, encouraging curiosity and hands-on discovery.

The Hub includes immersive research zones, robotics labs, Extended Reality studios, and 360° digital lounges, forming an environment that promotes critical thinking and creative problem-solving. The design aligns with national priorities in sustainability, innovation, and space exploration, offering students opportunities to engage in real-world research from a young age.
During his tour, Sheikh Mansoor was briefed on these facilities and commended GEMS Education for its contribution to Dubai’s educational ecosystem.
“We value the private sector as a strategic partner in advancing Dubai’s school education system,” His Highness said. “These efforts support the Education Strategy 2033, which aims to build a world-class, student-centred model of learning driven by innovation and diversity.”
He emphasised that education remains a cornerstone of the UAE’s progress, adding that the new school embodies Dubai’s vision to nurture talent capable of shaping the nation’s future with “creativity, purpose, and responsibility.”
Fully AI-integrated ecosystem
Setting new benchmarks for educational innovation, SRI introduces a host of regional firsts. It features a fully AI-integrated ecosystem, equipping every teacher with AI-powered devices and software that enhance creativity, critical thinking, and research.
The school also pioneers the use of humanoid and quadruped robotics in classrooms and houses the UAE’s first professional-grade Esports and Game Design Academy. Its advanced engineering facilities include an F1 and Karting Engineering Lab, while the FoodTec Lab features hydroponics and 3D food printing technology.

Sustainable design
Sustainability forms a central pillar of SRI’s operations. The LEED Gold-certified campus generates 30% of its energy from solar power and uses intelligent systems to optimise lighting, ventilation, and energy use.
Rainwater harvesting, low-flow fixtures, and hydroponic gardens further minimise water consumption, while simultaneously teaching students sustainable living practices. Every architectural and operational aspect of the school is designed to reduce environmental impact and inspire a culture of eco-conscious learning.
Holistic development
Beyond technology and innovation, SRI focuses on nurturing well-rounded individuals. Over 30,000 sq. ft. of innovation zones and specialist facilities support interests ranging from AI and robotics to music, film, and broadcasting, all built to professional standards.
Its athletic infrastructure includes an Olympic-size swimming pool, a FIFA-certified football pitch, a 400-metre athletics track, and a dedicated fencing facility, reinforcing the school’s commitment to physical and creative development alongside academic excellence.

The campus also boasts a professional Media Suite for live news, podcasting, and esports broadcasting. Complementing this is the region’s first all-Steinway Premier Music Academy, featuring concert-grade instruments and recording studios. Through collaborations with industry professionals, students gain direct exposure to real-world creative and technological environments.
